A pendant and chain need mechanical compatibility as well as visual balance. Start with the bail opening, chain dimensions and clasp.

Check the bail

The chain—and sometimes its clasp—must pass through the pendant bail. Compare listed dimensions when available.

Balance

A larger pendant often calls for a chain that looks proportionate, but preference matters. Avoid unsupported rules based solely on gender.

Metal details

Verify karat and color if you want a close match. Two pieces described as “gold” may use different materials or finishes.
