Chain width is usually listed in millimeters. A small numerical difference can create a noticeable change in visual weight.

Measure instead of guessing

Use a millimeter ruler to compare the stated width with an object in front of you. Product photography can make scale difficult to judge.

Width is not weight

Two chains at the same width can weigh differently because of karat, length, link design and hollow versus solid construction.

Pendant compatibility

If adding a pendant, verify the bail opening can accommodate the chain and clasp.
